Portrait of an Elderly Woman

I saw this lady in the Mexican Market in San Antonio watching a Peruvian Flute group playing their music. She was wearing a scarf and heavy coat in August, which I found very odd, but I loved her face which had so much character that I photographed her and painted her. I started out with a wash, which I was experimenting with but didn't  like the effect, so I wiped off the wet paint and loved the  look of what was left. I reinforced the face and other places on the scarf and let it be. This has always been one of my favorite portraits in my personal collection.
